Top locations in Portugal for 2023

Portugal is bursting with breathtaking beauty, awe-inspiring architecture and sumptuous cuisine. Our Discover Portugal tour transports you to some of Portugal’s most adored locations for a truly unforgettable adventure.

Unearth more jaw-dropping locations experienced on this much-loved tour below.

1. Lisbon

Lisbon, Portugal

Portugal’s coastal capital is frequently depicted as one of the most beautiful cities in the world. It’s no surprise why, as this mesmerising city is treasured by locals and travellers alike. We kick-off our adventure here with a group dinner and an atmospheric Fado performance.

A gorgeous town that should be added to your Lisbon to-do list is the quaint Alfama, situated in one of Lisbon’s oldest areas. The iconic number 28 tram, which symbolises Lisbon, passes through Alfama on its journey to the magnificent 11th-century São Jorge Castle. Why not hop aboard and tick two brilliant bucketlist items off in one go?

2. Obidos

Obidos, Portugal

If you treasure traditional villages then you will fall head over heels for Obidos. This impressive village is coined as one of the most stunning Medieval towns in Europe. Oozing with history, many depict a feeling of being transported back in time when venturing here. Marvel at glorious historic architecture, cobblestone streets and traditional houses during our orientation tour.

Whilst in Obidos, why not savour the local drink of ginjinha d’Obidos? This sweet, cherry flavoured liquer is produced at the heart of a family-run company founded locally, following a family tradition of sour cherry trade located in several spots across the country.

3. Douro Valley

Douro Valley, Portugal

We couldn’t compose this list without spotlighting the picturesque Douro Valley, home to the third largest river in the Iberian Peninsula, Douro River. Bask in the cinematic scenery of the Douro Valley as your personable Tour Leader details the eye-opening surroundings. If the mesmerising views weren’t already enough, the Douro Valley is renowned for producing the top-rated wine in the whole of Portugal.

During this tour, you have a free day to explore the region as you please; whether that’s resting poolside at our gorgeous accommodation, soaking in the marvellous landscape or sampling some port at a nearby winery.

4. Porto

Discover Portugal

Porto is a colourful coastal city renowned for its UNESCO World Heritage Site status. Our stop in Porto is brimming with extraordinary palaces, monuments and baroque churches. Become engrossed with fascinating landmarks and unique areas whilst venturing to the Clérigos Tower, Aliados Avenue, the Ribeira district and the cathedral.

Our tour concludes in Porto, however if you’re not yet ready to part with Iberia, this is where our Taste of the Camino: Porto to Bilbao tour begins! From Portugal through Northern Spain’s enchanting ancient towns and character-filled cities, this evocative journey is not to be missed.
